EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1 2005 As a result of decisions made at the AGM in November a number of changes will be made to the Bye Laws of the Constitution, once they have been approved by SA Stud Book. The following changes will significantly affect breeders, therefore to avoid disappointment, please read the following carefully. The changes will probably come into effect from the start of the next breeding season - August 1st 2005 - this will be confirmed. OUTCROSSING: Only registered Arabs, Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses will be accepted for basic section registration. HARDSHIP: The hardship category of registration will be closed, only animals with two registered parents will be eligible for registration. PART BRED APPALOOSA: A part bred section has been incorporated. PART BRED APPALOOSA HORSE: Animals that have one Appaloosa parent and another which is of an approved light horse breed may be registered in the part bred section. APPALOOSA SPORT HORSE: The progeny of an Appaloosa crossed with a registered thoroughbred or Warmblood that has been recorded in the basic section of the Appaloosa registry may be registered as an Appaloosa Sport Horse. APPALOOSA PONY: The progeny of an Appaloosa crossed with a registered Welsh section A B C, Arab, Thoroughbred, Connemara, Boerperd and Nooitgedacht or any registered combination thereof that has been recorded in the basic section of the Appaloosa registry may be registered as an Appaloosa Pony. APPALOOSA MINIATURE: The progeny of an Appaloosa Miniature crossed with a registered Miniature Pony that has been recorded in the basic section of the Appaloosa registry may be registered as an Appaloosa Miniature. BUYERS: Some Appaloosa breeders are not registered with this Society and the consequences of the decisions made at the AGM mean that animals bred by such breeders, which have been eligible for hardship registration are no longer eligible for entry to the register of this breed society. Some registered Appaloosa breeders do not birth-notify their foals and when they are sold the buyers incur greater costs and have difficulty getting them registered for a variety of reasons. If there is no official Society "registration certificate" or "acknowledgement of application", buyers should make every effort to confirm, with the Society, the registration status of animals that they are interested in buying before they make new purchases. If you require advice before buying an Appaloosa, contact the secretary, Maggie Riley, for a list of recognised breeders, and the registrations manager, Su Fairman, to confirm that animals have been registered or birth-notified. CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS The new acknowledgement of application certificates are now being sent to breeders as they birth notify their foals. The 2004 foals' certificates will be issued first and the backlog cleared in the next couple of months. If you do not receive your foal's certificate by March please contact Su Fairman. There are now over 1640 entries on the database and I am expecting applications to birth notify at least 100 more foals this season. The details of animals numbered AHC 001 to AHC 400 have been sent to SA Stud Book and entered onto their database. The corrections to the dataset will be published in the New Spot. |
