Merino sheep have been a part of this farming operation for over 50 years and at times the flock has numbered over 3000 ewes. The purchase of over 20 rams from the Konsortium Group through the years has improved the size, production and quality of our ewes. A decision was taken in 2004 to start a stud and 300 ewes were selected with the aid of the OFTA 2000 machine.

Hendrik Van Pletzen of Van Pletzen Merinos has helped us immensely with ram selection. Since inception we at WOODVIEW have used BLUP. We are using the top performance-tested rams available and are members of Merinoplan. We find the EBV's a useful tool in the selection of superior genetics.

Artificial insemination and synchronisation are used to multiply the genetics. The ram Spinner (who is nr.1 in the national sire rating) was used by means of AI. His progeny have performed well.

In February 2006 we purchased a half interest in the ram 1856 04 0697 Woodview from the Charmac stud of the Mac Naughton's. This Nok son has excellent EBV's, good structure and high quality wool.
